Short Breaks in Dublin

Ireland's capital city, Dublin is a great destination for exploring and sightseeing. One of its charms (and it has many) is that it is small and easy to navigate and the city lends itself to wandering around, admiring the beautiful Georgian architecture, strolling through a park or stopping by a local pub to soak up that special atmosphere and sip a pint of creamy Guinness. Dear old Dublin is beloved by many and was, in times past, home to renowned writers, poets and raconteurs. Paying homage all over the city, there are statues and plaques to Oscar Wilde, James Joyce, Patrick Kavanagh, W.B. Yeats and Brendan Behan and even Molly Malone herself has been cast in bronze! Dublin wit is famous and the banter, repartee and wonderful sense of humour is evident everywhere. Literary pub crawls are legendary in Dublin and combine a bit of culture with a lot of ceol agus craic! The city so much to offer the casual visitor and well known sights like the National Art Gallery, Guinness Brewery, Irish Museum of Modern Art, Old Jameson Distillery, St. Stephen's Green and the Phoenix Park can all be enjoyed from an open top bus. Many of Dublin's attractions are completely free too. The river Liffey virtually bisects the city centre and a stroll along the boardwalk on a sunny morning is a simple pleasure. The Four Courts with its visually striking cupola, is situated on the quayside and is Ireland's centre of justice and location of the Law Courts. Christchurch and Dublin Castle and the historic Woodquay area are just across the river, and you can even have a Viking adventure at Dublinia. The city has an amazing selection of restaurants where every conceivable cuisine is available and Dublin's answer to the Left Bank, Temple Bar buzzes with atmosphere for nights of fun and revelry. But naturally, no visit to Dublin could even be considered without a night in a local hostelry. Pubs like the Long Hall, Keogh's, Grogan's, the Brazen Head, O'Donoghue's, Toners and Doheny & Nesbitt's are like institutions. Great for shopping, the city hosts all the top Irish and UK retailers with Grafton Street and Henry Street leading the way to help you part with your cash. On Dublin's O'Connell Street, a vast piece of modern sculpture, the Spire, provides a dramatic focal point in the centre of this friendly and busy city. Now a cosmopolitan destination and ranked amongst some of the best European capitals, Dublin is still a fairly small place, but you are guaranteed to become infatuated with its friendly aura and fall in love with its big heart. Come soon to fall under the spell.
