Hotels in Cannes - think of holidays in France and if Nice is the Grande Dame of the French Riviera, then Cannes is surely La Femme Fatale! Certainly, all that glitters is not gold, but hotels in Cannes simply exude chic, scream style and carry sophistication to the Nth degree. A walk on the Croisette to mingle with the ultra trendy and quasi famous or browse the elegant designer stores where shoppers are clad in fur coats (it's 25 degrees!) is an excellent exercise in experiencing a little flagrant opulence.Many of the beaches on the Croisette are privately owned by the large hotels in front, but a few euro will secure your sun lounger for a bird's eye view of beautiful bodies bobbing in the waves.
The east end of Cannes though has a public beach which is free gratis, though may not have much kudos for being hip! Nip into the Carlton for afternoon tea to admire the lavish interiors, enjoy high levels of service or perhaps spot a famous face or two. There is palpable romance in the Carlton - after all, this is where Grace Kelly met Prince Rainier and later married him - another hint of glamour for the French Riviera.
The fabulous Cannes Film Festival takes place here, so Hollywood's finest may have graced these very halls....The Palais des Festivals has the hand imprint of many stars and every May, the town just sparkles and tingles with the excitement of stage and screen icons who flock to Cannes for the event. Double back into the town and there are delightful shops and fashionable boutiques where local Provencal crafts and designer clothes will help to part you from your cash. Rue d'Antibes is the best known for fashion. High-end jewellery stores gear towards the wealthy clientele, of which there are many in Cannes!
There's no shortage of great restaurants and cosy bars for evening - after the all important stroll on the Croisette, naturellement! In fact, directly on the seafront, many hotels have open air terraces so al fresco dining is a real treat and has absolutely elevated people watching to an art form - a typical French Riviera holiday pastime. There is not a soupcon of glamour about Cannes. It is all about glamour! From the magnificent yachts moored in the marina to the impeccably groomed and impossibily chic and coiffed visitors who stroll the Croisette, Cannes hits the high note every time. Cannes epitomises a holiday in the south of France, although near neighbours Nice and dinky Mougins are hot contenders.
There are no flights to Cannes, but direct flights to Nice from Ireland operate on a year round basis.
