Holidays in Malta - A little Mediterranean gem, Malta floats in crystal blue-green waters 60 miles south of Sicily and 200 miles from north Africa, looking for all the world like a pale honey coloured rock in the middle of the ocean. These same waters are perfect for diving and underwater pursuits and the island has many reputable PADI diving centres maintaining international standards.
The island was chosen as a base by the Knights of St. John and, as a result, has many wonderful historical sites. Some say Malta is like an open air museum! The capital city, Valletta boats one of the finest natural harbours in the world. The sturdy bastions and fortresses of the city are wondrous in their lovely architecture.
Not renowned for sandy beaches, although Mellieha Bay has a lovely one, the resorts of Bugibba and Qawra have many small inlets for rocky bathing and beautiful views over St Paul’s Bay. The resorts of St Julian’s and Sliema share a gorgeous seafront promenade and the “silent” walled city of medieval Mdina is magnificent.
