Carvoeiro resorts - Still a little sleepy by day, this original fishing hamlet is a pretty little village is now highly popular for Algarve holidays with international and native Portuguese visitors. Located between the larger resort of Albufeira and the local town of Portimao, the village snuggles between dramatic cliffs and has a few sandy beaches and tiny man-made town beach. Some secluded rocky coves are interspersed around the coastline.
For great holidays to Portugal, the resort is fairly sophisticated and upmarket these days and has plenty of excellent restaurants serving delicious fish and seafood and international cuisine. There are good nightlife options too, so Carvoeiro has left its dozy image far behind! The atmosphere bustles with happy holidaymakers and there are lots of little shops and bars and cafes.
There are a couple of good golf courses in the vicinity (Quinta de Gramacho and Vale de Pinta), so this is a convenient base for a bit of club swinging and retiring to the 19th for some lubrication in the shape of a chilled glass of Vinho Verde, perchance! Carvoeiro manages to successfully blend a touch of modern and old fashioned and this is part of its distinct attraction and charm.
