Once known as Hierapolis or Sacred City, believed to have been founded by the God, Apollo, this is a World Heritage Site today with its Roman ruins and Sacred pool where you can swim amongst ancient artifacts.
In Turkey's vast Anatolian plain is an area called
Cappodocia, locally known as Fairy Chimneys. These are unbelievable limestone formations like a lunar surface with cave hotels, rock churches and an underground city. Spare some time to visit Konya, the original home of the Sufi religion and perhaps witness a stunning display of the
Whirling Dervishes.
