Watch a Santorini Sunset

Sunset in Oia, Santorini - Santorini Bucket List

Santorini is renowned for its sought-after sunsets which have consistently been named the most beautiful in the world. These sunsets are truly magical and offer spectators some of the most stunning, picturesque views possible. There are so many places to view these sunsets around the island and here are our favourites:

Oia Village

This is the most famous place for sunset sightseeing in Santorini and is also known to offer the best views on the island. The village can get quite busy with tourists trying to capture the scenic moments so make sure you arrive early to ensure to get a good view!

Akrotiri Lighthouse

There is something just magical about watching the Santorini sunset from Akrotiri lighthouse. There are usually fewer tourists in the area so it would be suitable for anyone who would like a more peaceful, relaxing and equally as beautiful sunset experience.

Fira

The capital of this magical island also offers visitors breath-taking, unforgettable views of the sunset. There are many restaurants around Fira which gives guests the opportunity to appreciate the beautiful scenes while enjoying a delicious, romantic meal. Check out Character  – our favourite restaurant view.

Experience the best wines in Greece

Santorini Wines

Santorini is renowned for its beautiful wine which has been consistently named the best in Greece. The wine provides a delicious, unique taste due to the volcanic soil in which the grapes are grown. Wine tasting is extremely popular in Santorini and offers guests an amazing day out.

Santo Winery

Our favourite wine tasting venue in Santorini has to be Santo Winery. Located in the Pyrgos village area, this charming setting offers an excellent wine tasting experience as well as world-class views of the stunning caldera. Holidaymakers absolutely love this winery so it is no surprise it has been awarded a Certificate of Excellent on TripAdvisor. Visitors can enjoy a relaxed wine tasting experience filled with beautiful Santo wines, cheeses and spectacular views.

Explore the Akrotiri Ruins

Akrotiri Ruins in Santorini - Santorini Bucket List

Santorini is home to the famous archaeological ruins from the Minoan period. This breathtaking experience gives travellers the opportunity to uncover the Bronze Age settlement which was destroyed by the volcanic eruption of Thera. This site is remarkably preserved much like the ruins of Pompeii and allows visitors to discover the old fishing and farming village that once existed during the 2nd millennium BC. To get the full experience of this mysterious site, we would recommend being accompanied by a tour guide.

Swim at the Red Beach

Red Beach in Santorini - Santorini Bucket List

The Red Beach is the most famous beach in Santorini and has been widely described as the most unique and spectacular on the island. With its unusual red sand and incredible volcanic cliffs, this magnificent oceanfront should not be missed on a trip to Santorini. The walk down to the beach can be quite steep and difficult so make sure to pack some good walking shoes.

Hike from Fira to Oia

Hike from Oia to Fira in Santorini - Santorini Bucket List

This trail is a highlight of Santorini and travellers just love it. The Hike is not a difficult one but takes about 3 hours at a leisurely pace. We would recommend doing it during sunset as it is not as hot and the views are amazing at this time. The views along the trail are simply breathtaking and very diverse.

Transport in Santorini

It’s hard ticking items off your Santorini bucket list if you can’t get around the island. These are the main three ways you can navigate Santorini:

Buses

Although there is only one mode of public transport in Santorini – which is the local bus system – getting around couldn’t be easier. The bus system on the island is very efficient and easy to understand so travellers generally don’t feel the need to organise alternative modes of transport such as hiring cars. Buses run all day every day around the island which makes it effortless for visitors to enjoy everything Santorini has to offer. During peak season and some weekends, some public buses in Santorini operate until 3am which is excellent news for those enjoying the Santorini nightlife.

Taxis

Taxis also operate around the island and due to the size of Santorini, no fair should ever cost more than €25. There are many taxi ranks around the villages but the main one is located at the town square in Fira.

Car Hire

For those who wish to explore the island with more freedom, there are also plenty of car rentals available in Santorini offering anything from motorbikes, scooters, cars and land cruisers. This can be an excellent way to experience the island although visitors must be very careful of poor road signs and markings.

Now, let us help you to start ticking items off the list!
