Looking for somewhere new to lap up the sunshine? Why not try the Greek island of Rhodes?
Rhodes is the largest of the Dodecanese Islands, the group of islands that’s also home to Kos. Rhodes Old Town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site as it’s the oldest inhabited medieval town in Europe and is filled with equal measures of charm and a buzzing atmosphere. It’s a breathtaking island to explore, filled with contrasts, culture and an abundance of hospitality to make your holiday one to remember.
Whether you want to kick back and top up your vitamin D levels, immerse yourself in Greece’s rich history or get active exploring the Valley of the Butterflies, there’s something for everyone in Rhodes. Here are our top spots on the island and our top places to stay.
Lindos
Lindos is one of our favourite areas on the island as it has retained its authentic Greek charm. With whitewashed buildings, narrow cobbled streets, a looming ancient Acropolis on the hill and a stunning sandy beach, it’s hard to not fall in love with Lindos.
Where to Stay in Lindos
Lindos still feels like a real Greek village. In the centre of the town, you’ll find apartments and smaller family-run hotels, whereas on the outskirts you’ll find bigger resorts.
3* Xenones Lindos
The 3* Xenones Lindos is in the village. It’s quirky and cute with stunning views of the Acropolis and a fantastic bar to enjoy a cold drink while you watch the sunset over it. Its accommodation is basic but comfortable and spacious and it’s only a 10-minute walk to the beach!
5* Mitsis Lindos Memories Resort & Spa
The 5* Mitsis Lindos Memories Resort & Spa is a gorgeous adults-only resort located just on the other side of the Acropolis. It boasts its own private beach and, staying on a half-board basis, has an excellent selection of food in its 2 onsite restaurants.
Faliraki
Faliraki is home to the best sandy beach on the island and the largest waterpark in Greece. It’s buzzy, filled with things to do (or not do!) and has plenty of bars, tavernas and restaurants to choose from. If you want to explore more of the island from Faliraki, there are day cruises so you can beach hop to your heart’s content!
Where to Stay in Faliraki
4* Kouros Exclusive
The 4* Kouros Exclusive is a quirky boutique adults-only hotel 150m from a sandy beach and 1km from the centre of Faliraki. It’s an ideal hotel for couples or friends. You can stay here on B&B or half-board basis and won’t be disappointed by the standard of the food. It’s perfect for relaxing in luxury and style.
4* Cyprotel Faliraki
The 4*Cyprotel Faliraki is a brilliant all-inclusive family-friendly property, with bigger rooms designed specifically with families in mind. It has 3 swimming pools, 2 children’s pools, a waterpark with 7 types of slides and a small splash zone for younger kids. There’s also a kids club on-site and plenty of entertainment during the day and at night.
Ialyssos
Ialyssos was one of the most powerful ancient cities in Rhodes and in modern times, it became the original beach resort in Rhodes. Its pebbly beach is the ideal place to relax or try your hand at watersports, especially windsurfing. The old town of Ialysoss is dotted with tavernas, bars and plenty of churches, 3rd Century ruins and a Byzantine monastery.
Where to Stay in Ialysoss
Ialyssos has a long stretch of beach that combines it with the nearby Ixia. There is a superb range of 4* and 5* hotels along the beachfront so you’re guaranteed to find something to your liking and budget.
4* D’Andrea Mare Beach
The 4* Hotel D’Andrea Mare Beach is our Staff Pick for Ialyssos. It’s a fantastic all-inclusive beachfront hotel perfect for families, couples or friends. It has 3 pools plus a children’s pool adorned with its own waterslide. Recently renovated, its 162 rooms are spacious and modern with everything you could need from a kettle for tea to a hairdryer and views of the gardens or the sea.
5* The Ixian Grand
The 5* Ixian Grand Hotel is another adults-only hotel. Staying on an all-inclusive basis, there are 3 fantastic places to eat at the Ixian Grand: Vis a Vis Main Restaurant; Milonges A La Carte Restaurant; Blue Pool Bar. To enhance your relaxation, there’s a luxurious spa for some much-deserved pampering whether it’s a couples treatment, manicure or massage.
Kremasti
Kremasti, only 3km from Rhodes Airport and 12km from Rhodes Town, has remained relatively untouched and authentic. The village of Kremasti has a good selection of Greek tavernas for that taste of local culture. It has a 10km stretch of beach and a medieval castle atop a hill for stunning views of the island. Kremasti is an excellent place to just relax and recharge.
Where to Stay in Kremasti
As Kremasti is relatively untouched by the larger resorts, the accommodation is mostly homely 2* and 3* family-run properties – perfect to experience the legendary Greek hospitality!
2* Anseli Hotel
The 2* Anseli prides itself on being a home-away-from-home for its guests. It’s a small family-run property but has everything you need including an outdoor pool and jacuzzi, a cheap and cheerful bar and a kitchenette in the rooms.
