Bangkok

Bangkok Holidays from Ireland

A holiday in Bangkok is one of the most exciting things you will experience in your lifetime! The capital and largest city in Thailand, Bangkok is a cosmopolitan melting pot which enthrals at every turn. Vast and sprawling, Bangkok is fast moving and colourful with a population of over 11 million people!

Bangkok holidays are tailor-made for sightseeing as the city has wondrous temples or Wats, ancient traditional buildings, great modern architecture, street markets, fascinating palaces, and risque nightlife. A city that does not rest, Bangkok is full of lively, upbeat energy.

The Chao Phraya river runs through the city and bisects various areas in what sometimes appear like a concrete jungle. Sukhumvit Road is a long stretch where you can find upmarket restaurants, glitzy clubs, and nightlife venues. The area of "Old Bangkok" is home to the stunning Grand Palace and Wat Pho. Then, take a ferry across the river to see Wat Arun. Siam Square has a lot of high end hotels and sophisticated shopping malls where the futuristic Skytrain intersects.

Exploration of a few of the hundreds of temples is a must on any Bangkok holiday where reclining Buddhas and Emerald Buddhas and the gentle saffron-robed monks form the delightfully unique flavour of this marvellous city. Another must on the travel itinerary with any Bangkok holiday is a floating market on the water. Long canoe-like boats are paddled by women who peddle their wares or cook and serve steaming bowls of noodles.

Heaven for retail therapy, Bangkok has shopping at every level. Designer stores, street markets, glitzy malls, and night markets offer any item you could imagine. Buy a swathe of gorgeous Thai silk and have a custom-made suit, choose a quality gem and have it fashioned into a pretty ring, or buy some handy kitchen utensils made from coconut shells.

Of course, nightlife in the city is notoriously alive and vibrant and no holiday to Bangkok is complete without a visit to one of the city’s famous bars or clubs. This is part of the fabric of life in Thailand and these bars, being huge tourist attractions, provide a welcome boost to the local economy. More cultural events, such as a relaxed dinner cruise or traditional dancing show are delightful and show a sophisticated side of Bangkok nightlife.

Holidays in Bangkok are never dull. With its warm, friendly locals and energetic atmosphere, Bangkok is a city worth crossing off your bucket list!
