1. Boston

Boston is a wonderful city where old meets new around every corner. One of the city’s top attractions for all who visit is walking the Freedom Trail, a 2.5-mile route that will take you to 16 of of Boston’s most historically significant sites. Another must do is a trip to Harvard University. This stunning university is home to beautiful grounds and gardens and is perfect for an afternoon stroll. For lunch like a local, check out Faneuil Hall Marketplace and of course, if there is a game on when you visit, be sure to check out the Boston Celtics, the Boston Red Sox and the Boston Bruins.

Boston is also quite a compact city so walking around and exploring its sites is pretty easy. What makes it so unique is that you could be walking along a quaint cobblestone street, and you’re suddenly greeted with a modern, glass shopping gallery! Its charming and beautiful, especially during the fall when foliage is at its most colourful. At the heart of the city, you will also find Boston Common, a stunning park to enjoy with a cup of coffee first thing in the morning. 2. Washington DC

Washington DC is the capital of the United States of America and while a huge amount of its most popular attractions are based around this status, there is so much more to the city. From trendy eateries to up and coming neighbourhoods such as Georgetown, Washington DC is a city that surprises most. While there, be sure to visit the many Smithsonian Museums the city has to offer, all of which are free entry.

The National Mall is another must do in Washington DC and along it, you can immerse yourself in a huge array of history by exploring its many monuments and memorials including the Washington Monument, the Lincoln Memorial, the Martin Luther King Memorial and the World War II Memorial. Other must sees include the Capital Building and of course, the White House.

3. Chicago

Ok, so we know Chicago is not on the East Coast, but we wanted to include it in our post because it is a city that we love! Famous for its location on the shores of Lake Michigan which gives for panoramic views, Chicago is home to so many experiences, you won’t know where to start! While there, be sure to check out the world-famous Chicago Bean in Millennium Park, Navy Pier, which is a family friendly attraction complete with a Ferris wheel and we also recommend you visit either the Skydeck at Willis Tower or Tilt at 360 Chicago for the best aerial views of the city.

The Chicago River runs through the heart of the city, and we really recommend you take a cruise along it to enjoy the spectacular skyline and architecture. Shopping is also a must in Chicago with Magnificent Mile being the go-to shopping district. If you consider yourself a foodie, there is also a huge array of dining experiences from all corners of the globe throughout the city. Though we highly recommend you try the local deep-dish pizza. For those seeking some nightlife, Chicago has a thriving entertainment scene and is not only home to some fantastic shows but also a huge selection of jazz clubs.

4. Philadelphia

Philadelphia is known for being a booming cultural and culinary destination. Also famous for being the birthplace of liberty, Philadelphia has an endless list of things to do to make sure your trip is jam packed. While there, we recommend you check out the Liberty Bell, see how fast you can run up the ‘Rocky steps’ at the Philadelphia Museum of Art and of course you must enjoy a Philly cheesesteak too! Independence Hall is where the nation of America was founded and here you can enjoy a look back at this historic event. For those who love to get those iconic Instagram photos, check out the famous LOVE sign in John F Kennedy Plaza and the many unique neighbourhoods throughout the city.

5. New York City

New York City really needs no introduction but being the number one US city from Ireland, we couldn’t leave her out! Home to an endless selection of iconic attractions such as the Empire State Building, Top of the Rock, Times Square, the Statue of Liberty, and so much more, you will never be bored.

New York trips are all about ticking things off that bucket list and throughout the island of Manhattan and even further afield into the boroughs you will find so much more to do. From skyline cruises, to Intrepid, to exploring Staten Island after getting the free ferry over from Manhattan, the list just goes on. New York is also home to some fantastic public parks which in their own right are attractions too. Central Park features so many hidden gems such as Belvedere Castle. The Highline is a raised park build atop of an old subway line and Bryant Park is perfect for a morning coffee in the summer or a stroll around at Christmas time with its Christmas markets.
