Do you like warm weather, friendly people and a city where you can get to places easily, even though you might not know your way around there?

The Guadalquivir - River

Well, then a  holiday to Seville in southern Spain should be on your bucket list, as this city offers you everything you could wish for. I had the chance to spend over a week in this beautiful city, and I will share my experiences with you…
I’ve been to loads of big cities, from London to Manchester, Paris, Cologne… but no city has amazed me in a way that Seville did.
It was October when I jumped on a plane to go there. I had no idea what to expect, no idea whether I would like it down there or not. As I sat on the plane, watching it touching down in Seville, I saw that the outskirts were really dry and brown, but sitting on the bus heading into the city centre, Seville got greener and greener.

Seville Holidays - Check out the Plaza de Espana

There were palm trees everywhere and colourful flowers in baskets and planted into roundabouts. Walking towards where I was staying, I saw everyone chatting and just enjoying life. That’s what I love about Spain – the people there (locals as well as tourists) are full of joy and have big smiles on their faces. So now I know why people from northern Europe go on holidays there in the darker months of the year.

Seville Cathedral in the City CentreI must admit, Seville is beautiful – I’ve never seen a city that is so pretty! The architecture is amazing with a real Moorish influence. One of the days, I went onto a Hop on Hop off bus, just to get an overview of the city.  I ended up at the Plaza de España – a really impressive building. I totally loved it!

It was sunny that day, so Seville was looking its best with a blue sky and sun shining brightly. I went up la Torre del Oro which is right next to the river and now houses an interesting Maritime Museum. But the view from the top is the real attraction so make sure you head up that way to get a fantastic view of the city.

A horse dawn carriage in Seville city centre

The city centre itself is also a pretty nice place to spend some time. It’s really cool not just because of all the horse-drawn carriages but also because of all the small alleys to explore that take you all over the city. Don’t forget to have a closer look at (and into) the buildings, as sometimes you’ll find a beautiful patio with a fountain, surrounded by flowers and stunning mosaics. By the way, the carriages are pretty expensive, so make sure to haggle over the price if you want to go for a ride.
So all in all, when you’re in Seville, take a seat somewhere, take your time, have a chilled drink, look around and let the atmosphere take you into this beautiful city.

Seville - La Torre del Oro

And if you do want to go to the seaside, I’d recommend you hop on a bus to Punta Umbria. It’s a lovely small town with a beautiful beach where you can get tanned (or sunburned), and enjoy the water and the waves and if you’re lucky you might see some kite-surfers. Just make sure that you take enough sun cream with you as the sun down there is really strong!
