In the quaint seaside town of Blackpool, donkey rides on the sand, mountains of candy floss and kiss-me-quick hats are peddled as good old-fashioned fun. The entertainment that Blackpool provides is legendary and the eponymous Blackpool Tower with its wonderful ballroom and a real live circus is probably the best loved landmark.
The town is very culturally aware and, romance is palpable in the gorgeous Winter Gardens with its ornate Empress Ballroom and beautiful Opera House. Home to west end musicals, hit shows and top theatre productions, famous artists perform here all year round. The Grand Theatre attracts the cream of British and international entertainers and the live shows are superb.
The kids will love Ripley's 'Believe it or Not', where all manner of weird and wonderful objects have been gathered to peak the imagination. For a pure adrenalin rush, look no further than Pleasure Beach Resort. Over 125 breathstopping rides, rollercoasters, attractions and shows will calm the hyperactive and frighten the wits out of the slightly more laid back, but this is definitely a venue for all round family fun.
Apart from the sandy beaches of Blackpool, only 2 miles away the 256 acre green oasis of Stanley Park is lushly planted and has a model village and a boating lake. A few days break in Blackpool is hardly enough to do this great destination justice.
While there are no direct flights to Blackpool, there is a direct train service from Manchester airport that takes aproximately 1.5 hrs.
