Enjoy a holiday to Pisa and experience a fantastic time in Italy's beautiful region of Tuscany. Pisa holidays are more than just staring in awe at the world renowned Leaning Tower of Pisa, although this most certainly has to be a must see on your itinerary! You simply cannot miss a photo opportunity beside this amazing monument and it really is quite exciting to see it in reality. It is actually the Bell Tower of the Cathedral (Duomo di Pisa) and if you're feeling energetic, climb the steps to the top to get great views of the city. Situated in the Piazza dei Miracoli (Field of Miracles), other historic landmarks are the Battistero (Baptistry), cemetary and several museums with great collections of Tuscan Renaissance art.
Holidays in Pisa are very interesting as this is a University city with many other historical landmarks, ancient churches and lovely architecture. The many students absolutely animate the area and give the city a lively and busy air, so bars, coffee shops and local restaurants are buzzing. Nightlife options are centred round the mainly inexpensive pizza places and some local trattorias. As with any town or hamlet in Italy, high fashion also makes a statement and the shops are full of good leather footwear, chic clothing and upmarket household gadgets. The city centre (around Corso Italia) is quite small, so easy to get around on foot. Cross a few of the city's bridges to admire the lovely old houses on the river banks and, remember to treat yourself to a "gelato" (delicious local ice cream) en route!
Located at the mouth of the Arno river on the Tryhennian Sea, Pisa is well situated for sightseeing trips. The magnificent city of Florence is close by (about 1 hour's drive) and the delightful old cobbled streets of Lucca are equally accessible with frequent train connections. Even the glorious Cinque Terre region can be reached if you wish to walk through this famous Five Territories where one picturesque village is even prettier than the last. So, a Pisa holiday can take in quite a lot of sightseeing.
Surrounded by fertile olive groves and hillsides green with heavily laden vines, holidays in Pisa enjoy some of the best produce in Tuscany. Souvenirs of the rich local olive oil and biscotti are reasonable and solve the gift problem (keep the lovely leather handbags for yourself!)!
Conveniently close to the city, Pisa airport is only a short drive away. There are regular flights to Pisa from Dublin and we offer a selection of hotels in the city.
