Destinations / Portugal / The Algarve / Alvor
Alvor is one of the quieter resorts along the Algarve coast, having retained its local feel and humble fishing village roots. Sitting at the edge of the Atlantic, it overlooks a lagoon and a wonderful stretch of sandy beach.
For a holiday with less hustle and bustle, Alvor has become a favourite for family sun holidays. It's a charming town with traditional narrow cobbled streets and an atmosphere of complete relaxation. During the day, you can take a break from the pool and watch fishing boats pass along the riverfront. In the evening, you can soak up the buzz of the locals and tourists on the streets and sample the fresh local seafood.
You won't be stuck for things to do or see when holidaying in Alvor as it's close to three large resort towns:
- Praia da Rocha
Alvor itself has a 3.5km stretch of unspoilt beach and a unique elevated walkway. The walkway runs through the Ria de Alvor Nature Reserve and you can take in the stunning scenic views of Alvor's estuary and coast.
