Destinations / Ski, Lakes & Mountains / Lake Garda (Italy) / Bardolino
Bardolino is one of Lake Garda's prettiest towns. Situated on the eastern flank of the Lake, the town is full of history and dates right back to the Middle Ages.
Verona is only 30 klms away, so a trip to see the famous balcony, immortalised by the romantic tale of Romeo and Juliet, is an easy drive from Bardolino. Take in a night at the opera too as Verona's stunning amphitheatre puts on wonderful productions throughout the season.
Gently sloping hills sketch the backdrop to Bardolino and, combined with a very favourable climate, provide a superb growing medium for grapes. The vine-clad hills are home to the well renowned Bardolino wine and the locals are fiercely proud of their harvests. Fishing is another mainstay of the area and Bardolino followed the destiny of Verona and became the centre of maritime activities on the Lake.
The beautiful Church of San Zeno, once belonging to the San Zeno monastery in Verona and dating back to the 8th century, has its interior laid out in a Latin Cross pattern with six columns in red marble and some fine frescoes.
Bardolino is an ideal base to explore Lake Garda and the surrounding towns. Direct Aer Lingus flights into Verona make this an accessible and comfortable holiday destination. Bardolino is a lively resort town and it has a very attractive lakefront boulevard with a great choice of restaurants, shops, bars and ice cream parlours, perfect for evening strolling and people watching. The natural beauty of Lake Garda is ready to be discovered.
