The town has a maze of narrow, meandering streets and alleyways and the old Roman Castle stands towering over. The Catullus Grottos house the remains of an ancient villa which claims to have been the largest in northern Italy at the time and reputed to have been the home of the Veronese poet, Cato Catullo, in the 1st century.
A very attractive base from which to explore the natural beauty of the nearby lakeside towns, Sirmione is surrounded by beautiful countryside. Sloping hills, arable fields and fertile valleys are home to many vineyards and delicious Lugana wine is produced locally. Plenty of good restaurants serve excellent fresh fish straight from the Lake and there are many shops, cafes and bars to while away balmy afternoons.
Proximity to the theme parks of Gardaland and Caneva also bring family fun to the area, so the kids will never have time to be bored. Aer Lingus operates direct flights to Verona,so Lake Garda towns and resorts are easily accessible from Ireland.
