Thessaloniki City Breaks

Sitting at the crossroads of European and Ottoman culture, Thessaloniki, the second largest city in Greece, is a vibrant and multicultural city with a fascinating past. From ancient ruins to trendy bars, it’s a city that is full of life. Whether you’re a foodie, history buff or more into the art scene, a city break to Thessaloniki ticks every box.

Not only does Thessaloniki boast the title of ‘Gastronomic Capital of Greece’, but it also has more bars and cafes per capita than any other city in Europe. Indulge your senses at Modiano or Kapani Market and try koulouri (a sesame-coated bread ring), spanakopita (spinach pie), gyro (sliced meat in a pita) or bougatsa (a semolina custard pastry). To experience the Greek taverna, visit the Kalamaria area, which boasts some of the most historic in the city.

Things to do in Thessaloniki

  • Learn about its history: Visit the Archaeological Museum to discover Greek treasures like a 200,000-year-old skull, marble sarcophagus & a rich house tiled floor or the 15th Century White Tower to appreciate the history of Thessaloniki in the city museum.
  • Go back to Roman times: Visit Ancient Agora, the 1st Century A.D. Roman forum and explore its amphitheatre, the ancient shops and walk along the  “Cryptoporticus” arcade to the Roman Forum Museum.
  • Explore its waterfront: Thessaloniki has an impressive waterfront that has to be experienced. Grab a coffee at the Aristotelous Square and take a leisurely stroll along the waterfront to the White Tower.
