Destinations / Hua Hin
Long associated with Thai Royalty, the resort of Hua Hin is located in the northern part of the Malay Peninsula, 200k south of the capital, Bangkok. Holidays in Hua Hin offer a glimpse of the real Thailand as there are fantastic options to indulge in the wonderful culture of the country and immerse oneself in some of the traditions that are at once exotic and unique.
Hua Hin holidays are so diverse as the gorgeous 6klm stretch of soft sandy beach provides the leisurely activities of swimming, fishing, snorkelling and many watersports, but the resort is well known too for kite-boarding. Many visitors enjoy Hua Hin holidays for taking up courses in Thai boxing and Thai cookery and, lately, golf is fast becoming extremely popular. Some excellent courses such as Black Mountain, Banyan, Royal Hua Hin and Palm Hills will entrance with their emerald fairways and satin smooth greens.
Holidays in Hua Hin are more relaxing than other Thai holiday resorts and, whilst nightlife is still very lively, there are few go-go bars due to the proximity of the Royal Palace. There are the usual music venues, karaoke bars, beer halls and hotel bars, but in general, life is lived in a slower lane. Shopping in Hua Hin is a real pleasure with the Thai Silk Village, Night Street Market, Cicada Market and Hua Hin Market Village where you can bargain for great cotton clothing, gorgeously delicate silk items and lots more besides!
Hua Hin Railway Station (once a royal pavilion) has the honour of being Thailand's most beautiful railway station, and is a delightful traditional wooden building (re-built in 1968), but a real joy to behold. Slightly outside Hua Hin, there are hills with stunning Buddhist temples, a natural landscape with typical fishing villages, waterfalls, an Eco Village and a Butterfly Farm.
Hua Hin holidays are a revelation in terms of enjoying Thailand not only for the well documented features of lovely climate, smiling people, legendary nightlife and great beaches, but the potential to dip into the country's fascinating culture is one of the greatest charms of a holiday in Hua Hin.
