A holiday on the Spanish Costa Brava is a delightful experience on Spain’s “wild” or “rugged” coast, located in north Catalonia in the Province of Girona. Easily accessible from both Girona and Barcelona, the Costa Brava justifies its name with its magnificent natural landscapes, indented coves, stunning beaches, dramatic rocky hillsides and the sparkling and crystalline blue waters of the Mediterranean.
Costa Brava holidays enjoy an authentic taste of Spain that is perhaps fading in other areas. An essence of Catalan life in the slow lane is still visible in the countryside here with romantic touches of Romanesque ruins, monasteries, medieval fortifications and even mineral-rich thermal waters.
Holidays on the Costa Brava appeal to nature lovers with the snow caps of the Pyrenees (all the way from the French border) making way further south to charming coves and glistening beaches. The lively resorts of Lloret de Mar, Calella, Tossa de Mar and Blanes dispel any feeling that the modern visitor will struggle for enjoyment. Not so! The resorts offer every conceivable amenity and all positively erupt with joyous tourist activities in high season!
Of course, Costa Brava was home to the inimitable Salvador Dali who left an amazing legacy of surrealism, so a trip to his birthplace, Figueres, and site of the world famous museum housing his works of art is a great day out. Choose to follow the DO Emporada wine route; explore the delightful Jewish quarter of Girona to discover tiny meandering streets with local shops and cafes or simply languish on one of the many fabulous beaches along the indented coast. You may even find your own private paradise on a holiday on Costa Brava!
