Gateway to New England, the direct Aer Lingus flight to Hartford, Connecticut will open this beautiful area to a brand new audience. Virtually midway between Boston and New York, Hartford serves as a great pivot to explore an area of extreme natural beauty with colourful coastlines, historical treasures and interesting cities.
Hartford is the State Capital of Connecticut and, these days, is as well known for being the insurance capital of the world! One of the oldest cities in the US, Hartford is a pretty place, located on the banks of the Connecticut river. The riverbank has been revitalised and Hartford has a thriving arts and cultural scene, many historical buildings and some excellent museums. The loveable characters of Huck Finn and Tom Sawyer were "conceived" here by the world renowned author, Mark Twain and the Mark Twain House & Museum is a must-see attraction.
Lovely lush parks and gorgeous gardens aside, the Wadsworth Atheneum, the oldest public art museum in the entire US is housed in Hartford, so inside or out, the city has lots to offer. The famous abolitionist and author, Harriet Beecher Stowe also made her home in Hartford and died there in 1896.
Lovers of the great outdoors will be charmed by this whole area of New England as swathes of pretty countryside, lots of hiking trails and walkways, Jones Mountain Preserve and nature in its pristine form are all here in abundance.
