Makarska Riviera Holidays
This beautiful 60km stretch of Croatia's Dalmatian coast is sheltered by the Biokovo mountain range - affording it a sunny climate and a stunning backdrop of unspoilt national parkland. Click&Go offers return flights from Dublin to Split, an hour and 20 minutes transfer from Makarska. The idyllic island of Brac, just a 50-minute boat ride from the coast, is also a much-loved destination for daytrippers.
In the popular tourist resort of Makarska - you'll find a number of sandy beaches (rare in Croatia!), crystal-clear waters and walking trails shaded with scented pine trees. Take a trip into the Biokova mountains to experience the botanical gardens of the Biokovo nature park, as well as numerous biking and hiking trails. It's a half-hour drive to the highest peak, taking steep hair-pin bends that pass through ancient stone villages, such as Gornji Tucepi, where time has stood still. Visit the 7 stone towers of Vrgorac, built during the Turkish invasion, or the red and blue lakes of Imotski - set deep into the mountainside. To experience age-old customs of the region, wander around the restored stone buildings of Kokorici and stop off in a rustic tavern to sample the local food and drink.
Alternatively, leave the shade of the mountains and take a day at sea. All along the coast, tourist boats offer excursions to the diverse islands of Brac, Hvar, Vis and Korcula, often with a meal featuring the fresh catch of the day included in the price. On a Makarska holiday, it's easy to hop on the ferry to visit the culturally rich and peaceful island of Brac. Head further south to the ferry port of Drvenik to reach the equally pretty Hvar. If you only have a day, rent a car to get around or simply grab some lunch near the pier and enjoy the relaxed pace of island life.
A wide range of hotels, restaurants, cafes and discos are plentiful in the Makarska Riviera, catering for an influx of tourists in the warm summer months. Book your holiday to Makarska online and enjoy one of the most popular tourist regions in Croatia.
