If you’re interested in history, Perissa has plenty of notable sites for you to step back in time and learn about this town and island’s past. Our top three are:

Ancient Thera: Located atop Mesa Vouno is the site of Ancient Thera. It is one of the most important archaeological sites in Santorini with temples, theatres and ancient cemeteries. 200m up Mesa Vouno is the tiny chapel, Panagia Katefiani, which became a refuge when Perissa was under attack or under threat from a volcanic eruption.
Museum of The Minerals and Fossils of Thera: Travel 1.5 billion years back in time and learn more about Ancient Thera and how it became to be.
Basilica of Agia Irini: At the foot of Mesa Vouno, visit the Basilica that gave Santorini its name. Dating back to the 5th century, it is a piece of Santorini’s history that you must see.
